THE CITY IN A SNAPSHOT
The City of Beacon is nestled in the Hudson Valley, between the mighty Hudson River and historic Mount Beacon. Just 70 to 90 minutes by train from NYC, the city is home to nearly 14,000 residents, more than 80 shops, over 85 places to eat and drink, and some of the most stunning nature in the world.
It’s rich with galleries, event venues, independent shops, restaurants, bars, coffee shops and tea houses, and a plethora of non-profit organizations supporting the local community. With a historic Main Street almost a mile long, there’s something for everyone.
Dia Beacon houses its Foundation’s world-class collection of art from the 1960s to the present day in a 160,000 square foot former Nabisco printing plant, bringing international visitors from every continent to Beacon’s business district and hiking trails every week.
A thriving industrial city in the 19th to the mid-20th century, Beacon fell on hard times with the closure of its factories and the impact of urban renewal.
Its epic revival began as early as the mid-1980s, thanks to the strength of community efforts. And Dia Beacon helped accelerate a new chapter in the city’s rich and colorful history when it opened in the early 2000s.
