Are you making the most of The Beacon Beacon?
A recent snowfall at the west end of Main Street.
The Beacon Beacon launched in fall 2024 to shine a light on all good things in Beacon, NY. It’s a heartfelt love letter dedicated to spreading the word about Beacon’s businesses, artists, performers, creatives, community leaders, and groups in this Hudson Valley gem of a small city.
Its mission is to provide the type of spotlight that’s increasingly difficult to find in today’s crowded, attention-demanding media landscape. Created by a Beacon resident, this platform is for everyone who loves Beacon as much as she does—because Beacon residents deserve to know everything their city has to offer.
Winner of the 2025 Best Blog Award
The Beacon Beacon shines a light on where to go and what to enjoy in Beacon, NY.
It’s been a short but thrilling journey, and we’re grateful for all the encouragement and constructive feedback we’ve received since launching the platform. That’s not to mention the mind-blowing thrill of winning this year’s Hudson Valley Magazine’s Best of Hudson Valley Best Blog Award. To be welcomed and supported by Beacon’s community so early in The Beacon Beacon’s journey has been a dream.
You may know The Beacon Beacon from Instagram, be a subscriber to its weekly email newsletter, or read the blog features and have perused the helpful directories on its website. But have you truly explored every aspect of The Beacon Beacon? The platform—in all its channels— exists to help Beacon residents and visitors keep up with what’s new, what’s going on, and to find the resources they need. So, here’s a recap to help new readers and those who not be aware of all The Beacon Beacon offers.
Celebrating Beacon’s Vibrant, Creative Community
Little King, one of Beacon’s many one-of-a-kind independent shops on Main Street.
Few American towns and cities can claim almost full storefront occupancy. However, when a Beacon business closes or moves, another amazing entrepreneur often claims the vacated space within weeks. Plus, few places of Beacon’s size can boast a vibrant cultural scene every night of the week—largely thanks to the abundance of incredible talent here.
It’s easy to take all this for granted, which is why every community needs support to thrive and remain vibrant. Our goal is simple: to inspire support for local programs, shops, bars and restaurants, and local entertainment by ensuring as many people as possible know about them.
How To Make The Most Of The Beacon Beacon
Be sure to explore The Beacon Beacon blog on a regular basis. Here you’ll find guides to help you discover what’s new, what’s on, where to eat and drink, profiles of new Beacon businesses and initiatives, and Beacon community groups. (Note: we suggest subscribing to the Highlands Current if you’re looking for credible in-depth local news. That’s not in The Beacon Beacon’s scope!)
What is also in The Beacon Beacon’s scope is helping you find a place to eat or drink, a gift for that difficult cousin who turns their nose up at everything, a place to rest your head if you’re visiting, where to get a massage or your hair cut, or an essential resource like a doctor, real estate agent, insurance broker, or veterinary clinic, to name just a few. The Beacon Beacon’s eight directories provide information and contact details for all of the foregoing as well as kids’ programs. Plus, a basic listing in any of our directories is free for all Beacon business owners and Beacon community services. Just shoot us an email at hello@thebeaconbeaconny.com if we’ve missed including your business (it can happen!), and you’ll be added.

Time To Get Social
If you follow The Beacon Beacon on Instagram, you’ll know it’s a visual love letter to Beacon. All photographs are taken by me*, and the feed is purely editorial. This gives The Beacon Beacon the freedom to celebrate Main Street, the city’s natural beauty, the events scene, quirky and standout moments in time, and so much more in an authentic, non-commercial way. Instagram Stories are updated daily to share news from local businesses, event organizers, and the non-profits we love to support. We’re also on Threads for those who prefer that platform.
Beacon And Beyond
You’ll also find us on Facebook in two formats—The Beacon Beacon feed and What’s On—Beacon NY & Beyond. What’s On—Beacon NY & Beyond is a free Facebook Group with 5.5K members who want to know what’s happening not just in Beacon but across the Hudson Valley. Anyone can post relevant content there. Just become a member and share your event when the time is right. It’s an incredible—and underused—resource for getting the word out about events you’re producing, and for those looking for things to do in Beacon and beyond.
A final note: If you’ve ever wondered why you rarely see the person behind The Beacon Beacon, it’s because The Beacon Beacon is not about me*. It never was and never will be. (So, when I say “we” I mean me and The Beacon Beacon!) It’s ultimately about celebrating our city and everything that makes it a special place to live and visit.
And there’s more. This is just the beginning. We’ll be rolling out new content features and helpful resources in 2026—all designed to support Beacon’s vibrant, varied, and growing community.
