Leisurely Daytime Eats

Nilufer’s Home Kitchen (135 Main Street) is a colorful, cozy café that’s the first breakfast and lunch spot you’ll come to on Main Street if you’re visiting Beacon by train. Here you can enjoy a robust Turkish coffee or tea with delicious offerings including a breakfast for two consisting of 18 small plates, pita sandwiches, simit bread, and menemen (Turkish scrambled eggs in tomatoes and topped with crumbly, fresh feta cheese).

Beacon Quality Eats (157 Main Street)—a riff on the famous New York City Quality Meats steakhouse—is a destination for big sandwich lovers. Amid the roast beef, shawarma chicken, pastrami, pork shoulder, and other meaty choices, BQE also has great vegetarian and vegan offerings. Go there hungry and walk off the meal afterward with a nice long hike on Mount Beacon.

The Pandorica Restaurant (165 Main Street) originally opened as the Cup and Saucer Tea Room in 2007 before transitioning into a popular Dr Who-themed restaurant with British-style offerings in 2014. Owner Shirley Hot still serves a popular afternoon tea every second Sunday of the month.

Meyers Olde Dutch, 184 Main Street.

Visit Meyers Olde Dutch Food & Such (184 Main Street) to fuel up with a burger that’ll keep you going all day. Choose from the New York State Special (1/4 lbs beef patty, muenster cheese, garlic aioli), the Double Dutch (1 ¼ lbs beef patties, cheddar, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, fry sauce), Chili, Pork & Bacon BBQ, or Veggie Dutch. Good for day or nighttime dining.

The popular Beacon Bread Company (193-195 Main Street), with its outdoor seating, serves eggs with bacon, sausage, Canadian bacon, and American cheese on a roll for breakfast, and an eclectic mix of excellent lunch sandwiches ranging from a falafel burger on a vegan bun to chicken kimchi consisting of fried chicken, siracha, house kimchi, and arugula.

Anglophiles can get their Brit fix at Moreish (207 Main Street) where they’ll find fried eggs or tofu scramble and all the trimmings of a Full English breakfast. There’s also a separate lunch menu from which you can choose from a hearty and delicious classic Ploughman’s Lunch with a slab of tangy English cheddar cheese, crusty bread, house made red onion pickles, and salad, a fancy prawn cocktail, a Cornish pasty, beer battered fish and chips, or scrumptious tofu tikka masala. Moreish also serves a classic Afternoon Tea assortment.

Summer and huge bowls of refreshing iceberg or spicy arugula with a multitude of raw ingredients may come to mind when considering Butterhead Salad (208 Main Street) as a lunch option. But there’s more to Butterhead than salad. Choose from their Soups of the Day or warm rice bowl options to fill up if salad just doesn’t do it for you.

BJ’s Restaurant (213 Main Street) is a one-in-a-million BBQ and soul food eatery that’s been around before and throughout the city’s dramatic evolution, having opened its doors in 1978. It’s one of the oldest, most beloved restaurants in Beacon, and a must that every foodie should experience.

Open seven days a week, 12pm to 7 PM.

Stop by Dave The Butcher (232 Main Street) for Basque-inspired sandwiches and salads. Whichever you choose, you’ll find inventive, satisfying dishes to keep you going until dinner. Vegetarians included.

Can’t decide between Chinese and Japanese food? Then go to Isamu (240 Main Street) and have both. Isamu’s menu is divided between Japanese specialties such as sushi, sashimi, gyoza dumplings, and udon noodles, and Chinese classics including General Tso’s and Kung Pao chicken, beef with broccoli, spareribs, and eggplant with garlic sauce, to name just a few.

If you like middle eastern food, specifically Palestinian food, Ziatun (244 Main Street) is a must-visit. Ranging from subtly to strongly spiced, this cozy spot’s menu is equally good for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans.

There’s plenty of options at Hudson Valley Food Hall (288 Main Street) where you’ll find Tara’s Indian Fusion Cuisine, West Palmetto Burger Co, Nami Yum Yum, and Taco Al Dente. Sample a little of everything at the Hudson Valley Food Hall and wash it down with a delicious Pistachio Latte from Old Dhaka Coffee House or a cocktail from the Roosevelt Bar without even leaving the building.

Nansense Afghan Burger & Bowls’ (2 Eliza Street) signature offering is hamburgers seasoned with Afghan spices that make them taste somewhat like a kofta kabob. The masala fries come dusted with more exotic spices, and the beef, chicken, bean, or eggplant rice bowls with a side of Afghan bread make a perfect lunch.

If you’re looking for authentic Mexican fare, look no further than La Barbirria Mexican Restaurant (389 Main Street). Choose from an extensive menu of classics including fajitas, huarches, and street-style tacos. Be sure to save room for dessert.

Wild Kitchen & Bar (416 Main Street) opened early this summer to much fanfare. It started out serving just lunch, with healthy but flavorful bowls including chilled sesame noodles with tofu, vermicelli, cashews, and a creamy sesame dressing. This new spot also recently began serving dinner—a mixed menu with options for vegetarians (not so much for vegans), including summer squash with pistachio pistou, miso butter cabbage, vegetable crudo, and summer egg noodles.

Open for lunch seven days a week, 11 AM to 4 PM; Dinner served 5 PM to 9 PM Monday to Saturday.

Kitchen & Coffee (420 Main Street) is a cozy 100% gluten-free vegetarian and vegan café and bakery that offers delicious breakfast, lunch, and everything in between.

Himalayan restaurant Momo Valley, 455 Main Street.

After getting started in the Hudson Valley Food Hall, Momo Valley (455 Main Street) made the leap to its very own restaurant space and has continued to wow Beacon eaters with food based on generations-old family recipes. The super light chicken, beef, or spinach and cheese momo dumplings are the star of the show, and the Everest Platter provides a great sampling of Nepalese cuisine without having to order multiple dishes.

The Beacon Falls Cafe (472 Main Street) is a cozy little joint serving a wide range of meat and vegan (veggie and Beyond Beef) burgers, paninis which include a vibrant grilled chicken pesto, caprese (eggplant, roasted red pepper, tomato, mozzarella), and a Rueben on rye that holds its own against any you might get in NYC.

The Beacon Daily (29 Teller Avenue) is a family run, neighborhood breakfast staple. Almost everything is house made, including their delicious English muffins and a breakfast that’s served all day. Choose from a well-priced menu that includes a variety of English muffin breakfast sandwiches, bowls, waffles, salads. The Beacon Daily also offers tasty vegan and vegetarian options.

Who would guess from the name Red Pepper Diner (441 Fishkill Avenue) that this modest restaurant on the edge of Beacon serves incredible Sri Lankan food? Hoppers—a thin, bowl-shaped pancake made of rice flower—are a specialty here, and they’re served with a delicately cooked egg in the bottom. Red Pepper Diner also makes a variety of curries including a wonderful fish curry often made with Kingfish.

Nighttime Destinations

The well-deserved winner of the 2025 Winner of Chronogram magazine’s Reader’s Choice Award for best new restaurant, Lyonshare (246 Main Street) is a top spot for fine dining, elegant cocktails, top décor, and a buzzing vibe. There’s often live music, too.

Named for Fellini’s 1973 comedy-drama, Café Amarcord (276 Main Street) is an undeniably elegant affair. Within a beautifully lit, warm, and inviting environment, you can enjoy delicious American fare at the bar or in a cozy nook surrounded by vintage Italian cocktail art and Fellini film posters.

If you’re looking for brick oven pizza, Enoteca Ama (297 Main Street) is the place for you. Coming out of that super-hot oven, the crust on Enoteca Ama’s pizzas is always thin, crisp, and perfectly done; and the tomato sauce is delicate, slightly sweet, and generously ladled on. Also good for lunch.

Carters Restaurant & Lounge (422 Main Street) is a locals’ favorite and the perfect spot for those with ample appetites and a love of good honest American fare. Menus are updated seasonally. Lovers of cauliflower crust pizza won’t be disappointed! Note: the bar stays open later than the restaurant.

Earlier this year, The Piggy Bank 2.0 (446 Main Street) returned to the same building that Beacon’s beloved and original Piggy Bank occupied before closing more than 15 years ago. This popular new iteration delivers its own take on BBQ, along with Southern food staples, and Hudson Valley seasonal specials.

If you’re partial to art deco and a glamorous bygone era, dinner at Wonderbar (449 Main Street) will hit the spot. With its perfect 1930s vibe, vintage décor, atmospheric lighting, and awesome cocktails, it’s a great year-round destination. Enjoy small plates or entrée style meals.

If a restaurant’s friendliness matters to you as much as its food, then go to Brother’s Trattoria (465 Main Street). Opened in 1998 by the Berisha family, this place is a Beacon institution that’s been here through the city’s evolution. But what hasn’t changed is the delicious Italian food this locals’ favorite serves.

Open six days a week, 11 AM to 10 PM. (Closed Tuesday. Closes Sunday, 9 PM).

Another locals’ favorite is Sukhothai Restaurant (516 Main Street) which offers an extensive menu of classic Thai dishes. There’s plenty for vegetarians, too.

For upstate vibes, tasty, hearty American food, and craft beers, visit Melzingah Tap House (555 Main Street). Burger lovers will especially enjoy this spot. Plus, it’s just as much fun eating at the bar as it is in the restaurant area.

For spectacular views and setting, The Roundhouse (2 East Main Street) is hard to beat. This unique, historic former 19th century factory with its stunning waterfall backdrop offers fine wine, excellent food, and it’s brimming with atmosphere. It doesn’t get much better than patio dining here in the warmer months.

One of the most popular day and night spots to eat and drink just off Main Street is Hudson Valley Brewery’s tasting room and outside patio (7 East Main Street).  Craft beer connoisseurs will appreciate the care and attention this business gives to the creation of its beers, wines, and ciders. Meanwhile, appetites are satiated by delicious, freshly baked pies from Get Lost Pizza, while the brewery also serves tasty salads and sandwiches (including lobster rolls).

Cooper’s Beacon (47 East Main Street) is the ultimate cozy pub with an upstate vibe. Choose from one of their carefully curated wines, specialty and classic cocktails, or craft beers to accompany one of many gratifying meal options. Standouts include the smash burger, outrageously moreish fried onions, and Korean veggie dumplings. They also offer a kids’ menu.

Old School Vibes & Music

Pinball lovers and gamers can find their happy place at Happy Valley Arcade Bar (296 Main Street) where a local craft beer, cocktails, mocktails, or sake can be washed down with snack bites including mozzarella sticks, mac and cheese bites, a giant pretzel, chicken fingers, or vegan chik’n tenders.

Baja 328 Tequila Bar & Southwest Grill (328 Main Street) serves more than 300 types of tequilas alongside generous servings of southwestern style fare such as southwest boneless short ribs, tequila scampi, grilled street corn, and enchiladas.

Quinns, 330 Main Street.

Quinn’s (330 Main Street), once an old-school diner, is now a Japanese restaurant specializing in ramen. But there’s much than just super tasty ramen, including steamed buns, edamame, donburi (rice bowls), and a surprisingly wide variety of hotdogs (kimchi, curry, croquette, nori, and plain). During Saturday and Sunday daytimes, you’ll currently find a Rice Thing popup featuring shrimp katsu and koroke sandos (Japanese specialty sandwiches) and onigiri, among other offerings. Quinn’s also happens to be a music venue that often features great live performances.

Towne Crier Cafe (379 Main Street) is a Hudson Valley live music institution featuring artists from across the genre spectrum. It also serves great food from brunch, to lunch, to dinner. Perfect for those who like to listen and dine.

Draught Industries (394 Main Street) is primarily known for its craft beer and cocktails, but it’s also super popular with foodies because of its Mexican food. Why? Because its chef has created a menu that stands out from the other Mexican spots in Beacon by deftly combining the traditional with the eclectic. Sure, there’s tacos, burritos, and enchiladas on the menu, but have you ever tried a wild boar quesadilla? And that’s just for starters.

Open seven days a week: Sunday to Thursday, 12PM to 10PM; Friday and Saturday, 12 PM to 12 AM.

The Vinyl Room (396 Main Street) is just that. It features an in-store record shop, a speakeasy, and an arcade. And it’s one of the few late-night destinations in Beacon.  The extensive menu has something for everyone from chicken wings, carnitas tacos, and Korean nachos, to mac and cheese, vegan rice bowls, and salads.

Open seven days a week with varying hours. Open Friday and Saturday until 2 AM.

Please don’t ask us to choose from the Yankee Clipper Diner’s extensive menu (397 Main Street). It’s too difficult. Everything here is delicious and plentiful. This must-visit, classic Americana diner is for anyone wanting to fuel up ahead of a long walk or bike ride. Excellent for daytime or nighttime dining.

Grab n’ Go

As their name suggests, family-owned Noble Pies (137 Main Street) is known for its incredible range of slices and pies from savory to sweet and everything in between. You can also pick up a delicious house made quiche, croissant, cake, scone, or cookie.

Open seven days a week, 9 AM to 8 PM (9 PM on Friday and Saturday).

Trixie’s Vegan Pizza (144 Main Street) became a welcome addition to Beacon’s vegan offerings earlier this year. Don’t be disheartened if you can’t find it, just look for Piare Skin Studio (146 Main Street) and follow the path to the back of the building. Trixie’s Vegan Pizza plans to be a full-service restaurant with an outside dining area and an offering of vegan, natural wines, and beers. It’s currently awaiting its beer and wine license. Top tip: Trixie’s is now available frozen from Beacon Natural Market (348 Main Street).

Bagel-Ish (226 Main Street) offers artisanal, “gut-friendly” bagels that are crispy on the outside, light and chewy on the inside. These delicious buns are made with a unique process using specially milled flour with no bleaching agents or bromides. Build your own sandwich or choose from the menu.

Open Thursday through Sunday, 8 AM to 5 PM (except Sunday when closing is at 3 PM).

Lores Cafe (249 Main Street), which opened early in 2025, serves house made Albanian and Balkan sweet and savory treats and paninis daily. This is a great destination for a quick coffee, a catch-up with friends, lunch, or a grab n’ go bite.

Xin Xing (250 Main Street) serves no-nonsense traditional Chinese takeout.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken (252 Main Street) is a fast-food spot specializing in Cajun-style fried chicken, wings, seafood and more.

Open seven days a week, 11 AM to 9:00 PM.

At Healthy in Color (259 Main Street), you’ll find healthful bowls, salads, wraps, and smoothies including quinoa bowls, oatmeal bowls, a DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension Diet) salad, and more.

For a hearty, traditional sub sandwich lunch, head to Subway (294 Main Street) where you’ll find all the restaurant chain’s classics.

Open seven days a week: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM; Saturday and Sunday, 8:30am to 7:30pm.

Perhaps the longest-running Beacon business serving sandwiches is the old-school classic deli, Mr. V’s (297 Main Street). A favorite of locals and workmen alike, Mr. V’s opens early to serve breakfast sandwiches including bacon and egg, sausage and egg, and ham and egg on a Kaiser roll.

Serving the Beacon community since 2004, Pizza & Stuff (332 Main Street) has an extensive menu in addition to its pizzas (by the slice and by the pie), including calzones, salads, soups, appetizers, pastas, and an extensive Mexican offering.

In addition to classic bubble teas and smoothies, Asahi Poke & Tea (338 Main Street) offers fresh ramen noodles, poke bowls, rice bowls, and sushi.

Great Wall Chinese Food (393 Main Street) offers classic Chinese take-out at reasonable prices and with friendly service.

For an elevated to-go sandwich experience, stop by Beacon Cheese Shop (378 Main Street) where you’ll find tasty demi-baguettes with fillings including a classic caprese, ham and brie, roast beef, and others.

Open daily: 11 AM to 6 PM Monday to Friday; 10 AM to 6PM Saturday and Sunday.

Chicken likely comes to mind when you think of Kennedy’s Fried Chicken (392 Main Street), but there’s more to this no-frills, long-time Beacon establishment than meets the eye. Fish sandwich, a lamb gyro combo, or jumbo shrimp with fries are also on the menu, among many other things. For an inexpensive lunch, dinner, or late-night munchies, stop by at almost any time of the day or night.

Be spoiled for choice at The Bagel Shoppe (466 Main Street) which offers nine types of breakfast bagel sandwiches on 13 types of bagels which include all the classics as well as pumpernickel, jalapeno, French toast, and asiago. Their specialty happens to be the good, old-fashioned New York-style water bagel. Very budget-friendly!

Bob’s Mountain Grocery (790 Wolcott Ave) is famous for its epic Mountain egg special breakfast sandwiches and a large variety of others. Perfect for the hiker or worker who likes to get an early start and doesn’t have time to hang around.

Sal’s Pizza & Pasta (1120 Wolcott Avenue) is a no-nonsense take out that’s well thought of by locals, Dia Beacon visitors, and hungry hikers alike.

Open seven days a week: Monday to Saturday, 10:30 AM to 9 PM (Closes 8:30 PM on Sunday).

Another locals’ favorite of many years, Roma Nova (435 Fishkill Avenue) has been serving up an extensive menu of pizza and Mexican dishes for more than 25 years. It’s impossible to leave hungry from this almost legendary Beacon spot.

Asian Ginger (451 Fishkill Avenue) might look like your typical Chinese takeout place, but the food here is more than a cut above that. It offers everything you’d expect from a Chinese takeout, but is surprisingly light, well-seasoned, and cooked with care and skill.
