A glorious, sunny day before Thanksgiving in Beacon, 2024.

Tick tockβ€”the countdown to Thanksgiving is on! And if you haven’t started planning, chances are it’s somewhere at the back of your mind (or keeping you up at night). If you’ll be home for the holidays, the good news is help is here in the form of our handy guide to shopping local in Beaconβ€”everything you’ll need for the big day right here on Main Street. After all, our local businesses will be grateful for your support. And gratitude is what this season is all about.

Whether you’re a chef extraordinaire or you prefer shortcuts, Beacon has everything you’ll need for the big day.

The main dish

No need to drive miles for a turkey when there are high quality, local options right here on Main Street. Save time, effort, and gas by going to Dave The Butcher (232 Main Street)β€”a classically trained, whole animal butcher who sources directly from local Hudson Valley farms. Email the shop at info@davethebutcherny.com for more details and to reserve. Hurry, though, since supply is limited.

You can also stop in-store and order a turkey from Barb’s Butchery (69 Spring Street) if you’re looking for meat sustainably farmed by small Hudson Valley producers. This nose-to-tail butcher has offered Beacon locally sourced, grass fed, and pasture raised meats for more than 10 years.

Turkeys and other meats are also available at Beacon Natural Market (348 Main Street, can be pre-ordered) as well as at Key Food Marketplace (268 Main Street).

Don’t forget the veggies

An abundance of organic veggies are available at Beacon Farmers Market.

The final Beacon Farmers Market (223 Main Street) before Thanksgiving will be on Sunday, November 23rd between 10 AM and 2 PM. Stock up at this award-winning weekly farmers’ market for the freshest, most delicious veggies and produce. Don’t worry if there’s a line; it moves quickly and it’ll be worth the short wait. Here you’ll find an abundance of organic vegetables, meat, fish, baked goods, honey, fresh flowers, and more for the Thanksgiving table.

Beacon Natural Market and Key Food Marketplace also offer a wide selection of fresh produce, and each location accepts SNAP benefits.

Make Thanksgiving prep work a little easier this year

If you’re more interested in preparing a pretty table than cooking, or if it’ll just be dinner for one or two, then these local businesses are here to help. They offer everything from prepared turkey and meats, side dishes, to breads and desserts.

Hugely popular and family-owned, The Beacon Daily (29 Teller Avenue) has an incredible Thanksgiving catering menu of brined and smoked turkey breast, double-smoked bacon stuffing, bourbon sweet potatoes, brussels and crispy prosciutto, cheesy mac, and much more. For vegetarians, there’s butternut squash and sage lasagna. Their dessert menu includes three types of pieβ€”apple crumble, pecan, and pumpkin dulce de leche. See their website to order.

A staple on Main Street since 2014, Beacon Bread Company (193-195 Main Street) has recently announced its Thanksgivings Most Wanted menu. Mouthwatering offerings include Bread Pudding with Bourbon Glaze, Chocolate Bundt Cake, vegan cranberry citrus loaf, and an assortment of breads. See their Instagram for full details.

You can also order every type of bread and pie your heart desires from All You Knead Artisan Bakers (308 Main Street) for Thanksgiving, as long as it’s by Friday, November 21st. Here you can choose from the traditional breads you would expect plus treats like walnut gorgonzola sourdough, and cranberry, raisin and walnut. There’s a selection of scrummy pies as well as vegan onion bialys, assorted cheese and fruit puffs and potato and caramelized onion knishes. Stop by to order.

All bread options are vegan and include dinner rolls and demi-baguettes. Finally, there’s a vegan butternut squash soup offered by the quart. It will be top notch if it’s anything like last year!

More appetizers & desserts

There’s always room for cheese at the Thanksgiving table, whether it’s a pre-dinner appetizer or for dessert. Beacon Cheese Shop (378 Main Street) specializes in gourmet cheese, charcuterie, and all types of provisions. Choose from small to large cheese boards or a combination of cheese and charcuterie.

Order online or stop by the store to place your order by Saturday, November 22nd. Pick up is on Wednesday, November 26th. And be sure to take home some of their delicious fresh-baked baguettes to accompany your selection while you’re there. Plus, they deliver locally.

Noble Pies (137 Main Street) is known for its incredible range of pies, as its name suggests. With three storefronts in the Hudson Valley, Noble Pies came to the west end of Main Street in 2023 and has become somewhat of an institution here, selling slices and whole pies.

In addition to traditional Thanksgiving pies like pumpkin, pecan, and apple, this season’s flavors include Key Lime and Black Dirt Chocolate Cream. There are also gluten-free and sugar free options. Pre-order is available online and in-store. Order soon, as they often sell out quickly.

Turkey On Every Table community fundraiser

While Thanksgiving should be a special time of tradition, togetherness, and an abundance of food, this isn’t the case for everyone. To help those who may struggle to give their family the holiday they’d wished for, local nonprofit I Am Beacon is hosting its annual Turkey on Every Table Thanksgiving meal distribution on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in partnership with Key Food Marketplace and Salem Tabernacle Church.

The goal of the program is to make sure local families can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal, whatever their circumstances. This program can really be a lifeline to those Hudson Valley households struggling to put a holiday meal on the table. You can help by donating $65 to provide a family with a turkey and a full bag of fixings. Visit I Am Beacon to donate, while families in need of assistance can sign up by Tuesday, November 18th  at Salem Tabernacle Church.

Fill up the Tiny Pantries

You also might be familiar with the Tiny Pantries at multiple locations across Beacon, inviting us to β€œtake what you need, give what you can.” These small but mighty installations also provide relief to those in need of good quality food. The program is operated by Fareground, a charitable 501(c)(3), women-run food justice, anti-hunger organization dedicated to nourishing our community. When shopping for Thanksgiving, why not add a few extra items to your shopping trolley to donate to a pantry near you?

Tiny Pantry locations include Binnacle Books (321 Main Street); Tompkins Terrace Laundry Rooms (194 Tompkins Terrace); Howland Public Library (313 Main Street); First Presbyterian Church (50 Liberty Street). Plus, Fareground will host two β€œWelcome Table Community Dinners” during Thanksgiving week: one on Monday, November, 24th and the next on Friday, November 28th. Follow them on Instagram for the details.
