Step onto Beacon’s Main Street and you’ll be struck by an almost overwhelming choice of places to eat breakfast or a leisurely weekend brunch. We’re not complaining; it’s a great problem to have. Beacon, NY is undoubtedly home to some of the best breakfast and brunch spots in the Hudson Valley, so here's what you should know before deciding where to fill up for the day.

Breakfast For the early birds

Early risers need an early breakfast, especially before a busy workday or a weekend of outdoor adventure. There are several excellent Main Street (and just off Main Street) options that open at or soon after sunrise.

Yankee Clipper Diner (397 Main Street) is a quintessential American all-day diner, full of vintage charm, red vinyl booths, and generous portions. Not only is everyone in this family-run business super-friendly and efficient, but the breakfasts are hearty and satisfying and coffee refills are limitless. A stack of blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup (be sure to ask for it), accompanied by two poached eggs or an omelet, an English muffin, and home fries hits the spot whenever we’re feeling especially indulgent.

Open seven days a week starting at 7 AM. Good for breakfast, brunch, and lunch.

Bob’s Mountain Grocery (790 Wolcott Ave) is famous for its epic Mountain egg special breakfast sandwiches and a large variety of others. Perfect for the hiker or worker who likes to get an early start and doesn’t have time to hang around.

Opens daily at 5 AM (6AM Sundays). Good for a breakfast sandwich on the go.

Be spoiled for choice at The Bagel Shoppe (466 Main Street) which offers nine types of breakfast bagel sandwiches on 13 types of bagels which include all the classics as well as pumpernickel, jalapeno, French toast, and asiago. Their specialty happens to be the good, old-fashioned New York-style water bagel. You can also choose from seven different breakfast burritos and 10 varieties of omelet, all at budget-friendly prices.

Opens daily at 6 AM. Good for a breakfast sandwich on the go.

Locals love Mr V’s Deli (297 Main Street), a Beacon mainstay for more than 30 years. This Main Street institution offers a variety of cost-conscious egg-y breakfast sandwiches, and its salads include the crowd-pleasing macaroni salad.

Brunch—a term first coined in late 1900s England—with its combined breakfast and lunch dishes is ideal for those who can’t imagine getting up before 9 AM on a weekend but absolutely can’t wait until noon for lunch. Plus, it’s possibly the most social, leisurely mealtime there is. Ideally, you’re not on the clock, so who cares if brunch takes two or three hours? Just be sure to tip your wait staff well when you leave!

Stepping into Wonderbar (445 Main Street) will make you believe you’ve stepped back in time. This charming bar and restaurant has the feel of an elegant, classic 1930s dining establishment—which is consistent with its origins. Although wholly contemporary and chic, Wonderbar’s décor is a clear homage to the décor of that bygone era. It’s possibly the only spot in Beacon to get oysters for brunch, as well as shrimp cocktail, a chilled lobster cocktail, and a shellfish platter in addition to more conventional but equally yummy brunch options.

Open seven days a week, it offers brunch specials every Saturday and Sunday between 12 PM and 3 PM.

It’s hard to beat an al fresco brunch at The Roundhouse restaurant (2 East Main Street) if the weather’s warm. And if it’s not, there’s an equally incredible view from inside. The mouthwatering Roundhouse menu is made even more appetizing by spectacular views of the beautiful Fishkill Overlook Creek waterfall in all its glory. Brunch entrées include lump crab meat eggs benedict, brioche French toast pain perdu, Catsmo smoked salmon omelet, skillet frittata, and other delicious dishes. Accompany it with a classic mimosa, a bloody mary, or a “red eye old-fashioned.” Anyone with a penchant for epic views and a classy experience will love this landmark Beacon spot.

Brunch is served Sundays from 11:30 AM. The lounge and patio are first come, first serve when open. Good for celebrations and weekend treats.

A Full English Breakfast, please

The British-themed eatery, Moreish (207 Main Street) is an equally satisfying spot for breakfast or lunch. Anglophiles know “moreish” is British slang for something so delicious you can’t help wanting more. And that’s exactly what British chef, Michael Johnson, and his wife and business partner, Shey Aponte, offer with a full menu of British classics. Breakfast is served from 9 AM to noon, and it features popular Brit dishes like a Full English Breakfast (including black pudding), and bubble & squeak with the type of tea you’ll only find in the UK. Delicious variations of the Full English are also available for vegetarians and vegans. We’re big fans of the vegan option, which includes a beautifully seasoned scrambled tofu. You’ll find plenty for lunch including beer battered fish and chips, a classic ploughman’s lunch, and sesame coated marmite and soy glazed tofu.

Choose from a well-priced menu that includes a variety of English muffin breakfast sandwiches, bowls, waffles, and salads. And there’s no rule against ordering one of The Beacon Daily’s epic lunch sandwiches such as The Tony Bourdain which comes with crispy mortadella, Dijonaise, and provolone on a kaiser roll—TBD’s homage to the iconic New York chef and author.
