Lines of Demarcation: Memories From Beacon’s Black Communities of the 20th Century is a poignant, student-produced documentary that chronicles the lived experiences of Beacon, New York’s Black residents throughout the 20th century. The film captures personal histories shaped by the Great Migration, the rise of industrial job opportunities, the Civil Rights movement, and the disruptive force of urban renewal. The Spirit of Beacon Day evolved as a response to the civil unrest which took place in Beacon in the mid-late 1970’s. This is a unique local history collaboration by the Rise Up Project at St Andrew & St Luke Episcopal Church and Foundation For Beacon Schools, featuring BCSD High School students and Beacon senior residents.
