The Best Breakfast Spots in Beacon

The Yankee Clipper Diner, 397 Main Street.

There’s plenty of good reasons to eat a satisfying breakfast. After all, a full belly is the first step toward a productive day—whether you’re headed to work, planning a day of Main Street shopping, or hiking to the top of Mount Beacon.

Often called the most important meal of the day, breakfast means different things to different people. It could mean a stack of blueberry pancakes with a side of sausage to some or a bowl of oatmeal and some fresh fruit to others. Either way, Beacon is home to some of the best breakfast spots in the Hudson Valley.

Here's what you should know before deciding where to eat that crucial first meal of the day.

For the early birds

Early risers need an early breakfast, especially ahead of a busy workday or a weekend of outdoor fun. There are several excellent Main Street (and just off Main Street) options that open at or soon after sunrise.

Fresh blueberry pancakes and eggs at the Yankee Clipper Diner.

Yankee Clipper Diner (397 Main Street) is a quintessential American all-day diner, full of vintage charm, red vinyl booths, and generous portions. Not only is everyone in this family-run business super-friendly and efficient, but the breakfasts are hearty and satisfying, and coffee refills are limitless. When we’re feeling especially indulgent, a stack of blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup (be sure to ask for it), accompanied by two poached eggs or an omelet, an English muffin, and home fries hits the spot.

Open seven days a week starting at 7 AM.

Bob’s Mountain Grocery (790 Wolcott Ave) is famous for its epic Mountain egg special breakfast sandwiches and a large variety of others. Perfect for the hiker or worker who likes to get an early start and doesn’t have time to hang around.

Opens daily at 5 AM (6AM Sundays).

Be spoiled for choice at The Bagel Shoppe (466 Main Street) which offers nine types of breakfast bagel sandwiches offered on 13 types of bagels which include all the classics as well as pumpernickel, jalapeno, French toast, and asiago. Their specialty happens to be the good, old-fashioned New York-style water bagel. You can also choose from seven different breakfast burritos and 10 varieties of omelet, all at budget-friendly prices.

Opens daily 6 AM.

Locals love Mr V’s Deli (297 Main Street), a Beacon mainstay for more than 30 years. Now under new ownership, this Main Street institution offers a variety of cost-conscious egg-y breakfast sandwiches, and its salads include the crowd-pleasing macaroni salad. The new owners of this old-time deli have vowed that none of Mr V’s magic will disappear.

Open 6:30 AM Tuesdays through Fridays; Saturdays 7 AM; Sundays 8 AM.

A touch of Turkish

Menemen at Nilufer’s Home Kitchen, 135 Main Street.

Nilufer’s Home Kitchen (135 Main Street) is a colorful, welcoming café owned and operated by Nilufer Goodson, Turkey’s first female executive chef. It’s also the first breakfast spot you’ll come to on Main Street if you’re visiting Beacon by train. Here you can enjoy a robust Turkish coffee or tea with delicious offerings including a breakfast for two consisting of 18 small plates, pita sandwiches, simit bread, menemen (Turkish scrambled eggs in tomatoes and topped with crumbly, fresh feta cheese), and çilbir, which is made of poached eggs over spinach in a garlicky yogurt sauce.

Opens 8 AM Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays. 9 AM the rest of the week.

A gluten-free destination

Kitchen & Coffee (420 Main Street) offers satisfying vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free savory or sweet breakfast options all day—to go or to eat in. That’s not to mention almost any type of coffee or tea your heart might desire. From jammy eggs and shakshouka verde to chia pudding and puffed amaranth and coconut granola, you can’t go wrong starting your day here.

Opens daily, serving food from 8 AM.

A Full English, please

A Full English Breakfast at Moreish, 207 Main Street.

The newest addition to Main Street’s breakfast scene is British-themed eatery, Moreish (207 Main Street). Anglophiles know “moreish” is British slang for something so delicious you can’t help wanting more of it. And that’s exactly what British chef, Michael Johnson, and his wife and business partner, Shey Aponte, offer with a full menu of British classics. Breakfast is served from 9 AM to noon, and it features popular Brit dishes like a Full English Breakfast (including black pudding), and bubble & squeak with the type of tea you’ll only find in the UK. Delicious variations of the Full English are also available for vegetarians and vegans. We’re already big fans of the vegan option, which includes a beautifully seasoned scrambled tofu.

All day breakfast, every day

Of course, there’s no rule against ordering one of The Beacon Daily’s epic lunch sandwiches such as The Tony Bourdain which comes with crispy mortadella, Dijonaise, and provolone on a kaiser roll—TBD’s homage to the iconic New York chef and author. The Beacon Daily also offers tasty vegan and vegetarian options.
