A Wave of 2025 Summer Openings on Main Street

Beacon, NY. Often referred to as “Heaven on the Hudson.”

In January 2025 we wrote about a cluster of new store and restaurant openings in the city. Well, now it’s time for an update on the latest wave of new kids on the block to come to Main Street this spring and summer. With so many new places to shop, eat, drink, and play, there’s more reason than ever to get out and about in Beacon to explore them all.

New arts center comes to Beacon

(UPDATE: The opening is delayed due to some construction issues. When we know more, we’ll update here.) New arts center Savage Wonder opens this weekend—May 9th and 10th—at the former Mechanics Savings Bank (139 Main Street). This stunning space will serve as both an art gallery and a downstairs theater space and bar area called the Parlor. The opening weekend includes a reading of Eugène Ionesco’s absurdist masterpiece, The Bald Soprano. On Saturday, the Savage Wonderground Art Gallery’s inaugural show begins—entitled Radical Fun— and features the work of artists who are veterans, or who are family members of veterans.

A full English, please

Moreish. Opening soon at 207 Main Street.

British eatery Moreish originally opened in the Hudson Valley Food Hall in March 2024 serving classic British greats like the Full English Breakfast (both traditional and veggie), sausage rolls, and bangers & mash, as well as sweet favorites including Bakewell tarts. It proved so popular that English chef Michael Johnson and wife Shay APonte took a leap of faith and decided to open their own restaurant at 207 Main Street—former home to Big Vinny’s Pizza and Donnoli. It looks like they’ve transformed the space, and we can’t wait to see it. Their official opening date is Wednesday, May 14th.

A Bourbon Bar comes to Main Street

Imagine our surprise when we walked past the former space for Vincent Eat Paint Love at 331 Main Street last week to discover the art studio transformed into a bourbon bar serving a variety of bourbons, cocktails and fine wine. Now called Vincent Eat Paint Love Bourbon Bar, it will still offer guided painting classes both on and off the premises, but the “eat and drink” part just got a whole lot more interesting! The owners also announced this week that they are now serving charcuterie boards as an accompaniment to the drinks served.

More space for crafting

We love to see a Main Street business grow! The popular crafting store Beetle & Fred, announced that they’d be moving to a larger space at 217 Main Street on April Fool’s Day this year. It could have been a joke, but happily it wasn’t. This new space allows for classes to take place on site. It’s such a great move for a one of Beacon’s most unique independent stores. The move now leaves 171 Main Street available for a shopkeeper with a dream to snag a prime spot at the west end.

New places to eat and drink

Homespun’s former location—232 Main Street— is currently being renovated by husband-and-wife team, Dave and Melissa, who plan to open Dave the Butcher this spring. They come backed with some serious credentials. Dave is a classically trained whole-animal butcher, charcutier, and salumier who’s worked at James Beard Award-nominated and Michelin-starred restaurants including Lilia, Misi, Ai Fiori, and Rolo’s. They also operate the Dia Café (3 Beekman Street).

The Wild Kitchen & Bar, 416 Main Street.

The Wild Kitchen & Bar at 416 Main Street, will be a farm-to-table vegetarian café with a fast casual lunch offering and full-service dinner for the evenings. We’re looking forward to summer dining al fresco in their charming garden area.

A pilates studio

RE: FORM LAB—a pilates and barre studio from Warwick, NY— is opening in summer 2025 at 340 Main Street. Founded by New York-based pilates instructor, Jenn Seracuse, RE: FORM LAB offers a series of different classes suitable for all levels. Choose from a more traditional pilates offering to classes incorporating cardio and strength training.

Recently opened

If you haven’t visited The Floral Society (161 Main Street) and Lily & Marigold (163 Main Street) at the west end of Main Street yet, you really should. These two beautiful new lifestyle shops opened in Beacon just a few weeks ago, creating yet another reason to visit Beacon if you’re looking to revamp a room at home, or just indulge in some finishing touches to a tablescape. Home fragrance lovers won’t be disappointed either. We recently picked up The Floral Society’s own brand Essential Oil Incense in Rose & Geranium and can’t get enough of the earthy but light floral fragrance.

For sale

The iconic Hudson Beach Glass at 162 Main Street.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t include news of the sale of not two but three historic former firehouses in Beacon. Beacon Engine Co. at 57 East Main Street and Mase Hook & Ladder at 425 Main Street are being sold by the City of Beacon to offset the costs of building its new state-of-the-art firehouse on Wolcott Avenue. The new firehouse, which opened in Fall last year, consolidates the fire and EMT service needs of the city into one building.  Both are listed with Gate House Compass Realty.  We’re excited to see what the future holds for these architectural beauties.

Finally, the iconic, beloved Hudson Beach Glass at 162 Main Street is also for sale as a going concern. This staggering beautiful 1893 building is being sold by its owners who have nurtured the building and their business since 2003. If you know The Beacon Beacon, you’ll know it’s one of our favorites to photograph. The owners—John and Wendy Gilvey, Michael Benzer, and Jennifer Smith—have seen the transformation of Beacon’s downtown district over this time from a boarded-up Main Street to the Hudson Valley destination it is today, and they more than deserve a well-earned retirement. We wish them luck and look forward to sharing news of what happens to this space next.
